Kalinko was launched by Sophie Garnier in November 2016, importing beautifully handmade homeware from Burma made by over 75 talented artisan families across the country.
Initially working in Private Equity in Yangon, Sophie travelled the country finding all sorts of beautiful things and meeting extraordinarily talented artisans.
"They were almost exclusively selling to the markets in their nearest town for a fraction of the value of their talents, or struggling to sell as there is little local demand or spending capacity for these high end products. So I wanted to create a way to give them access to international markets, to upskill them to meet international standards, and to give the rest of the world access to their beautiful products." says Sophie Garnier.
Sophie eventually left her job and started Kalinko and has built it to the fantastic online homeware it is today. Injecting stunning colours in our homes with her cushions and bedspreads as well as wonderful rustic rattan trays, storage boxes, planters, and stools. These artisan handmade products are a fabulous additions to any home. My particular favourites are the cushions, the coloured glasses, the jam spoons and the beautiful jackets but that's just me...
Thank you Kalinko for introducing the UK to the wonderful craftsmanship of Myanmar.
